Carla J. Curtis

As far back as she remembers, Carla J. Curtis has been fascinated with written communication. This is due in part to her late mother’s insistence on her being able to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

In addition, while in college pursuing her bachelor’s degree in management and master’s degree in managerial leadership, she vividly remembers her professors reiterating the importance of having excellent writing skills to become successful in your chosen career.

And over the years, Carla discovered her love for writing and the rest is history. Because of this, Carla even penned her own quote: "Writing to me is like gasoline to an automobile, without it, I would be immobilized."

In all her professional positions, Carla was always known as the go-to colleague to write, proofread, and edit various documents. She also has proofread and edited the college papers of friends and family as well as manuscripts for authors.

Carla’s passion for writing has led her to become a published author, blogger, and editor as well as content writer and editor for over two decades. She is well-regarded for being a dependable and detailed-oriented communicator with a record of accomplishments in proposing, outlining, writing, and editing content for various mediums.

She has logical skills and is adaptable to different writing styles, strong research skills with a keen eye for details, and diligence in producing quality work. Additionally, she is well-versed in building interest in readers and critically approaching problems and known for exceptional client engagement and support skills.

For example, Carla served as the editor for a newsletter while working in corporate America. In fact, Carla served as part of the communications strategy team to develop this newsletter. Carla was responsible for collaborating with other internal and external clients to get content for the newsletter. Carla also wrote commentaries for the group executive as well as proofread and edited all the contents of the newsletter before sending it to the consultant for final review, approval, and distribution. In addition, in a previous position working for this same company, Carla wrote and edited content for the web page for the government accounts department.

Carla also provided proofreading, editing, and developmental editing for “Chasing the Silver Lining,” a memoir written by Livingston Alexander, former president of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and Titusville in Bradford, Pennsylvania, which became a #1 bestseller in its category.

She also provided proofreading and editing for “The Joneses” and “Delilah,” fiction books written by best-selling author, poet, and screenwriter Shelia M. Goss. Shelia has been featured on the Essence Magazine bestsellers list and has received various awards over the years for her books. Carla has proofread and edited the books of other authors as well.

While working for a community mental health agency, Carla was responsible for developing, gathering content as well as writing and editing content for a newsletter used as an activity in a psychosocial rehabilitation program group. This newsletter was successful and helped clients increase their self-esteem and decision-making and critical thinking skills and to improve their social interactions with others.

Over the years, Carla has made it a priority to hone her writing and editing skills by reading and purchasing various books, conducting research, and taking various workshops.

When not immersed in a writing project, you can find Carla doing what she also loves and that is working as a therapist and soul helper in her private practice. Carla too enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, traveling, watching comedies, movies, and documentaries, and just overall enjoying life to the fullest.
