Carla J. Curtis

As far back as I remember, I have been fascinated with written communication. This is due in part to my late mother’s insistence on me being able to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

While pursuing my bachelor’s and master’s studies in management, professors consistently emphasized the importance of having excellent writing skills for professional success in any field.

And over the years, I discovered my love for writing and the rest is history. Because of this, I even penned my own quote: "Writing to me is like gasoline for an automobile, without it, I would be immobilized."

Building on my early enthrallment with writing, my professional journey includes being known as the go-to colleague to write, edit, and proofread various documents. I have also proofread and edited the college papers of friends and family as well as manuscripts for authors.

My passion for writing has led me to becoming a published author, content writer, blogger, and editor for many years. I am well-regarded for being a dependable and detailed-oriented communicator with a record of accomplishments in proposing, outlining, writing, and editing content for various mediums.

In addition, I have logical skills and am adaptable to different writing styles, strong research skills with a keen eye for details, and diligence in producing quality work. Furthermore, I am well-versed in building interest in readers, critically approaching problems, known for exceptional client engagement, and support skills.

For example, I served as a newsletter editor while working in corporate America. In fact, I served as part of the communications strategy team to develop this newsletter. I collaborated with other internal and external clients to get content for the newsletter. I also wrote commentaries for the group executive as well as proofread and edited all the contents of the newsletter before sending it to the consultant for final review, approval, and distribution. And in a previous position working for this same company, I wrote and edited content for the web page for the government accounts department.

Equally important, I provided proofreading, editing, and developmental editing for “Chasing the Silver Lining,” a memoir written by Livingston Alexander, former president of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and Titusville in Bradford, Pennsylvania, which became a #1 bestseller in its category.

I provided proofreading and editing for “The Joneses” and “Delilah,” fiction books written by best-selling author, poet, and screenwriter Shelia M. Goss. Shelia's books have earned her multiple awards and a spot on the Essence Magazine bestsellers list. I have also provided proofreading and editing books of other authors as well.

At a community mental health agency, I created and edited a newsletter for a psychosocial rehabilitation group activity. This newsletter was successful and helped clients increase their self-esteem, decision-making, and critical thinking skills as well as to improve their social interactions with others.

Over the years, honing my writing and editing skills has been a priority by reading and purchasing and reading books, conducting research, and attending various workshops.

When not immersed in a writing project, you can find me doing what I also love and that is being a therapist and soul helper in my private practice. I also love spending quality time with family and friends, exploring unfamiliar places through travel, reading, watching comedies, movies, and documentaries, and simply making the most out of life.
